My educational training focused on the chemistry of water and rocks. I have spent years of my life on research ships studying lakes and oceans. For the past several years, I have been pursuing the goal of understanding tropical climate change on time-scales from decades to millions of years. An example of one of my on-going research projects is to examine the role of climate and environmental change in affecting the human occupation of the Andes Mountains of tropical Peru and Bolivia.
