   Abstract:
   In this chapter I offer a theoretical frame, the theory of conjunctural action (TCA) that allows for uniform analysis of all three types of fertility differentials. I then provide contemporary examples of each type. A key feature or this approach is a move away from culture-versus-structure arguments--a framing that has long hampered social science research, and especially research on the family.
