Research Interests:

Rae Jean Proescholdbell has research interests in the areas of HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, integration of care, and access to and participation in care. As someone trained in both clinical and community psychology, Rae Jean is interested in the impact of systems on individuals, and also in the environmental contexts experienced by individuals. Currently, Rae Jean is the Research Director of the Duke University Clergy Health Initiative, which seeks to understand and improve the health of United Methodist clergy in North Carolina. She is also the Evaluator on two SAMHSA-funded intervention projects that test a model of integrated care for persons with HIV, substance abuse, and/or mental illness. She evaluates a health services intervention examining the sharing of electronic medical data between HIV medical providers, case managers, and substance use treatment providers. Although not currently funded in this area, Rae Jean is interested in continuing her research on Psychological Sense of Community. When possible, she conducts research using a Community-Based Participatory Research approach.
