Luis Basurto

Associate in Research

Luis E. Basurto is a research associate at the Center for Child and Family Policy working with Professor Lisa Gennetian. His current work examines the health and economic well-being of Latino families and children, their experiences with poverty and social programs, and the impact of poverty reduction policies on families and children. Prior to joining Sanford, Basurto worked as a research analyst for the Urban Institute’s Health Policy Center. At Urban, he focused on topics related to systemic barriers at different points along the continuum of care, the effects of economic distress on various health outcomes, health information technology, the opioid epidemic, and the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic on preventive care. Basurto holds an MS in mathematics and statistics from Georgetown University and an undergraduate degree in economics and finance from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
