Janet Dal Santo is a research scientist at the Duke Transdisciplinary Prevention Research Center (TPRC). As part of her responsibilities, she manages and coordinates TPRC administrative and research activities and contacts with the funding agency and local and state partners.
Dal Santo’s main research expertise has been in the area of child labor and childhood injury prevention, mainly home and occupational injuries. Her most recent research has been policy-driven and focused on studying the enforcement and evaluation of state and federal regulatory mechanisms for protecting youth workers in North Carolina and other states. In addition, Dal Santo is interested in conducting theory-driven research that informs individual- and community-level preventive interventions that address one or a combination of the following issues: child neglect and maltreatment, violence, bullying, school-drop-out and substance abuse among adolescents.
Prior to her work at Duke, Dal Santo worked at UNC-Chapel Hill as a project director and principal investigator in the area of adolescent health and occupational safety. She also worked internationally on policy-oriented child health and safety research projects and as an international consultant for combating illegal child labor.
