    Jean-Pierre Auffret is a visiting lecturer at DCID teaching eGovernment and ICT for development. He is director, research partnerships in the School of Business and associate director, Center for Assurance Research and Engineering in the Volgenau School of Engineering at George Mason University. He was previously director of executive degree programs in the George Mason School of Business, including the MS in Technology Management, MS in Management of Secure Information Systems and Executive MBA. He is also co-founder of the International Academy of CIO.

    Auffret’s work and research span a range of applied technology fields including on CIO and ICT leadership and governance, cybersecurity and addressing cybersecurity challenges for cities and counties, and Smart Grid, and including with APEC, NSF, IBM and World Bank. He has served on several Commonwealth of Virginia commissions including the Health Information Technology Advisory Commission (HITAC). In addition, he has worked with the World Bank and ITU on mobile and ICT for Development and is a member of the American Zoological Association research committee. His experience includes executive positions with MCI and its joint venture with British Telecom, Concert and academic positions with George Mason, Duke University’s Center for International Development and as physicist-in-residence at American University. Auffret earned a B.S. from Duke University where he was an A.B. Duke Scholar, M.B.A. from the University of Virginia and Ph.D. in Physics from American University.

    Jean-Pierre Auffret is a visiting lecturer at DCID teaching eGovernment and ICT for development. His primary fields bridge the intersection of science and technology, and business and international development including the strategy, management, policy, innovation and application of technology to government, business, healthcare and rural development. Specific recent initiatives include fostering IT executive leadership and CIOs and the application of mobiles and wireless in international development.

    J.P. Auffret is co-founder and director of the Center for Advanced Technology Strategy, and co-founder and vice president of the International Academy of CIO. He is a recent director of the M.S. in Technology Management Program at George Mason University and has been a member of the business school faculty at Mason, the University of Maryland and American University; and physicist-in-residence at American University. He has 25 years of technology industry and academic experience, including management and executive positions, with MCI and its joint venture with British Telecom, Concert.
