Kusum Knapczyk, Senior Lecturer of Hindi Language of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies

Kusum Knapczyk

 

Kusum Knapczyk is Hindi lecturer at Duke University. Before joining Duke in 2016, she served as Hindi Lecturer at the University of Colorado Boulder and Indiana University, Bloomington. Kusum has taught Hindi at SASLI (South Asia Summer Language Institute) at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has also taught Hindi at the University of Texas at Austin, and in several STARTALK intensive Hindi language programs throughout the US, including STARTALK: Hindi in the Rockies at the University of Colorado Boulder and Yuva Hindi Sansthan at Pennsylvania.  

 Kusum received a Ph.D. in Hindi literature from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India, and she is a fully certified ACTFL OPI and WPT tester for Hindi. Kusum has published numerous articles and short stories in Hindi newspapers and magazines. She has won first prize in the International Hindi Satire competition in Mauritius conducted by the World Hindi Secretariat. She has also won ACTFL Global Engagement Initiative Award and the Betsy Alden Award for Outstanding Service-Learning. Her research interests are the history of Hindi literature and language, Hindi language pedagogy, and Urdu poetry. She co-authored a Hindi reader titled-Reading Hindi: Novice to Intermediate published by Routledge.
