Courses and Workshops outside Duke, Humboldt Research Institute, December 2010
In collaboration with Blanka Shaw, we taught a week-long course at the HRI in Maine, on liverwort identification. This was an outreach activity associated with my NSF Tree of Life grant.
Field Workshops taught outside Duke, December 2010
In collaboration with Blanka Shaw, we taught two workshops on plant identification in Alaska during 2010: one in McCarthy and one at the University of Fairbanks. These are outreach components of our collaborative NSF grant on peatmoss systematics and evolution
Plant Identification, to present
Bryophytes are frequently sent to B. Shaw and myself as a result of our Duke Herbarium activities, for identification. These are typically sent by government employees (e.g., U.S. Fish & Wildlife; National Park Service) and/or environmental NGOs. This is a critical (and widely recognized) outreach service provided by the Duke Herbarium.
member, Board of Scientific Advisors, 2004
This board reviews proposals for grants-in-aid for research at the Highlands Biological Station. I am the Duke representative.
