    Abstract:
Amorphous fumed silica has been found to enhance both the Intensity and resolution of the emission, excitation, and synchronous fluorescence spectra of benzo[a]pyrene-r-7,t-8,9,10-tetrahydrotetrol (BPT) on a filter paper substrate. Experimental parameters including the type and concentration of fumed silica were investigated as well as the method of application. The use of fumed silica as an enhancing agent in luminescence detection of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons is attractive since the procedure is simple, rapid, and cost-effective, and therefore suitable for routine analysis. © 1989, American Chemical Society.
