Research Interests

Dr. MacPhail is an Associate Professor in Chemistry. He is a physical chemist studying molecular dynamics in disordered condensed phases, especially fluids, through a combination of experiment, computer simulation, and theory. Current areas of interest include spectroscopic studies of vibrational and conformation dynamics of small molecules in liquid and supercritical fluids, with a focus on the underlying intermolecular forces, and studies of slow complex dynamics in supercooled liquids and glasses, particularly the phenomenon of physical aging.
