Research Interests for Thomas H. Naylor

Research Interests:

Professor Naylor specializes in the subjects of economics, management science, and computer science. However, his writings and research have struck upon issues that extend far beyond the boundaries of these fields. He is perhaps best known for his work involving “The Second Vermont Republic,” which he developed as a response to the trends of corporate America and his belief that the country is following in the footsteps of the Soviet Union prior to its collapse. Before he began to conjure his ideas of an independent Vermont, Dr. Naylor spent most of the 1980s traveling throughout Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. His observations of the countries allowed him to be one of the first to predict the downfall of the Soviet Union that occurred soon after. It was this experience that inspired his writing of The Vermont Manifesto. Other titles of his publications include, Secession: How Vermont and All the Other States Can Save Themselves from the Empire, Downsizing the USA, Affluenza, and The Abandoned Generation: Rethinking Higher Education.
