Zbigniew J. Kabala
Associate Professor of Civil Engineering
Born and raised in Poland, Dr. Zbigniew J. Kabala earned masters degrees in civil engineering and in mathematics before immigrating to the United States. After earning his doctorate at Princeton, he held two postdoctoral appointments--at MIT and Berkeley--before accepting his first faculty position at UC-Riverside. Dr. Kabala came to Duke in 1994 to join the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, where he holds appointments of an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies.
Dr. Kabala resides with his wife Margaret. Their 24-year old son Bolek has recently moved to New Haven to pursue his doctoral studies in political science, while their 23-year old son Kuba is currently applying to graduate programs in medieval history. The Kabalas enjoy hiking, dancing, and movies. Dr. Kabala loves playing racquetball, squash, and tennis, while his wife prefers aerobics and yoga.
