Research Interests:  

Received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1997. He has taught at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and Williams College. He is the author of What's My Name? Black Vernacular Intellectuals (University of Minnesota Press, 2003) and Midfielder's Moment: Coloured Literature and Culture in Contemporary South Africa (Westview Press, 1999). He is the editor of Rethinking C.L.R James (Basil Blackwell Publishers, 1966). His forthcoming books include Long Distance Love: A Passion for Football (Temple University Press, 2007) and The Phantom Calls: Race and Globalization in the NBA (Prickly Paradigm Press, 2006). He is the General Editor of the Duke-based journal The South Atlantic Quarterly (SAQ).
