I am interested in how theater and music-theater can be used to "document" everyday life, in a similar way to documentary films and oral history recordings, and what it means to represent and engage with reality through the artifice of theater.

George Lam lives and works in Durham, North Carolina, where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in composition at Duke University. George has recently collaborated on projects with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Voices, Volti, American Opera Projects, the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, the Red Clay Saxophone Quartet, the Boston University Concert Band, Duke University Theater Studies, baritone Robert Maril, and writers Benjamin Rogers, Lap Lam, Martin Zimmerman and John Clum.
George is a founding co-artistic director of Rhymes With Opera, a new opera company dedicated to bringing new works of music-theater into unexpected spaces. For more information about George’s music, and to hear recordings of recent works, please visit www.gtlam.com. |
