   Abstract:
   I draw from studies in psychology and neuroscience and also a case study to argue for a theory of the way that recognizing moral reasons can influence motivation and emotion in particular. The empirical work, I argue, undermines theories that hold motivation to follow immediately from the recognition of reasons, and also undermines Humean instrumentalist theories.
