Abstract:
The Ω+/Ω-ratio originating from string decays is predicted to be >1 in pp interaction at SPS energies. The anti-Ω dominance increases with decreasing beam energy. This surprising behaviour is caused by the combinatorics of quark-antiquark production in small, finite strings. Since this behaviour is not found in a statistical description of hadron production in pp collisions, it may serve as a potent observable to probe the hadronization mechanism in such collisions.
