    The Seidel aberrations of thin spherical lenses composed of media with refractive index were examined. To confirm the analytical aberration results, a custom ray tracing code was developed that does not rely on the sign of the index to determine the path of the ray. It was observed that the expressions for the Seidel aberrations of thin spherical lenses, found in the optics literature were unchanged by the consideration of negative index media. It was also observed that spherical lenses possessing real aplanatic focal points are possible only with a negative index.
