Ryan Kozlowski earned his B.S. in Physics from Davidson College and officially joined LTB (the research group of Bob Behringer) the summer of 2017. His current work focuses primarily on stick-slip dynamics and micromechanics in granular systems with an elastically driven, grain-scale intruder. He utilizes an annular geometry setup to study steady-state regimes and high-resolution imaging to capture photoelastic force chains during long time-scale stick events to gain insight into mechanical rearrangements of force networks as the intruder is forced through the bed. He is also interested in granular flows and using photoelastic imaging at high resolution to characterize particle-particle interactions in typical granular flow geometries (annulus, hopper, and chute, for example), where grain-scale interactions have not been well studied experimentally thus far.
