  1. Paredes, L; Valdez, ML. "Language Contact and Change: Direct Object Leísmo in Andean-Spanish." Selected Proceedings of the 4th Workshop on Spanish Sociolinguistics Ed. Westmoreland, M; Thomas, JA. Cascadilla Proceedings Project, Somerville, MA, USA, 2012, vii+161 pages-vii+161 pages.

    Abstract:
In this paper the authors discuss the interaction between external and internal factors in the use of leísmo–use of the third person dative clitic in accusative structures–among speakers of contact varieties of Spanish in Peru. The authors also show that the pattern of variation seems to indicate a change in progress favoring leísmo among speakers of Spanish, even in areas considered predominantly monolingual. The data for this paper consists of recorded interviews with speakers of Andean Spanish, both bilingual (Quechua and Spanish) and monolingual. This paper addresses the question of whether morphosyntactic change is preceded by variation.
