   Abstract:
   Durkheim's polar concepts of organic and mechanical solidarity have been widely used as core aspects of social organization. Mechanical solidarity has been associated with pre-modern, pre-industrial society. This essay argues that in advanced modern society there are numerous manifestations of mechanical solidarity in new guises.
