    Abstract:
    Much of pioneering sociological work in altruism owes to Sorokin's research. Building from this, we introduce the notion of "global altruism" to cover altruistic activities of individuals and organizations who devote their activities, outside of their own setting, to improving the conditions of others. Examples are given at the micro, meso, and macro levels.
