   Abstract:
   Attention is given to the noted theorist Pitirim Sorokin as a "public sociologist" who addressed different publics, including a critical/radical mode of address. Topics he wrote on in his later years included abuses of power in the public sphere, the attack on sexual mores. and the Vietnam war. Sorokin, like Mills, was for the profession a maverick.
