    Abstract:
Sociology faces a challenge of making sense of an emergent "global age". Sociobiology is one competitor in linking the biological and social sciences in a unified frame. What is needed is not only for sociology to have cognizance of developments in biology and psychology but also to factor in "surprises", good and bad, as recurrent features of modernity. The present specialized compartmentalization of graduate training needs to be rethought and overhauled.
