Education:

  • Ph.D., University of North Carolina, 1998
Research Interests:

My educational background includes a biochemistry degree from Rice University, a Master's in Public Health from Emory University, and a Ph.D. in epidemiology from University of North Carolina. My research has focused on reproductive health-- specifically, on the relation between sexual activity during pregnancy to the risk of preterm delivery, and on the patterns of symptoms of pregnancy. Before I joined the University Writing Program, I taught environmental epidemiology at Duke's Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences. Other interests include transportation issues (I have worked at the UNC Highway safrety Research Center and have served on Chapel Hill's Transportation Advisory Board) and astronomy (I have given shows and classes at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center).
