Research Interests:

I have recently completed a book that reconstructs the intellectual foundations of late nineteenth century mainstream British economic theory. My present research builds on this study in a number of related directions (such as the tensions in the late Victorian moral sciences between science and history, and between psychology and sociology, varieties of British Hegelianism, and the common ground shared by late Victorian British liberals and early twentieth century Russian Bolsheviks). My primary research project at present, however, deals with the relationship between late nineteenth century economic thought and early twentieth century modernist art and design. One goal of this current project is to demonstrate that the history of economic thought need not always be investigated in isolation from the wider history of thought and culture.
