Abstract:
A study of men and women author's treatment of endogamous themes: texts discussed include King Lear, Paradise Lost, Philip Sidney's Arcadia, and Mary Wroth's Urania, Elizabeth's translation of Marguerite de Navarree's Glass of the Sinful Soul, and Elizabeth Cary's Tragedy of Mariam. A theoretical introduction argues for a different perspective on the importance of incest for undoing the anthropological foundation of the "traffic in women."
