Research Interests
Dr. Fitzgerald's research group is focused on studies of protein folding and stability. The group utilizes a unique combination of mass spectrometry-based methods, chemical synthesis strategies, and biophysical techniques to investigate both fundamental and practical aspects of protein folding reactions. Current research efforts include: (1) fundamental studies on several model protein systems to investigate the molecular interactions that guide protein folding processes; (2) the development of new mass spectrometry-based techniques to study protein folding reactions and (3) practical applications of protein folding studies in the areas of disease detection, diagnosis, and therapy. For a more detailed description of our work in these areas see our group website.
