Research Interests
I study modern Latin America, with a regional focus on Bolivia. I am interested in the intersections of class and race/ethnicity and the relationship between the state and groups identifying as indigenous. My dissertation is tentatively entitled "Conscripting the State: Indigeneity and Gendered Citizenship, 1907-1974." It will explore the Bolivian military barracks as a site of state formation and changing individual and collective identifications over the course of the twentieth-century.
