I study modern Latin America, with a regional focus on Bolivia. I am interested in the intersections of class and race/ethnicity and the relationship between the state and groups identifying as indigenous. My dissertation is entitled "Conscripting the State: Indigeneity and Gendered Citizenship, 1907-1964." It explores the Bolivian military barracks as a site of state formation and changing individual and collective identifications over the course of the twentieth-century.
