Bill Sharman,

Bill Sharman

I specialize in modern European, African, and global history, with a particular focus on ethics and politics, sovereignty, race, and migration. My research is grounded in a broader interest in the histories of empire and decolonization, humanitarianism and human rights, capitalism, civil society, and religion, as well as an interdisciplinary engagement with anthropology, visual culture, and media studies. Currently I’m at work on a dissertation called Moral Politics: Global Humanitarianism, the Third World, and West Germany, which tracks the forms of transnational government, religious networks, and refugee migration that linked West Germany to parts of Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia following the Second World War and the end of colonial rule.
