    Abstract:
The motion of a moored semi-submersible is modeled using a semi-empirical nonlinear ordinary differential equation. Time domain simulations, guided by the qualitative theory of dynamical systems, illustrate the extremely complex nature of typical responses in regular seas. The importance of nonlinearities is emphasized together with the implications for floating structures in general.
