I have developed a mathematical model of a renal afferent afteriole. In the model, blood flow is simulated through a small diameter twodimensional elasticcontractile tube. The model also includes convection, diffusion, and degredation of nitric oxide released by the tubular wall, and tubular wall relaxation in response to nitric oxide concentration.
Nitric oxide is a potent vasodilator and appears to play an important role in blood flow regulation.
