Abstract: When a population is in equilibrium, the frequency of
various alleles at a particular locus appear in what is
known as Hardy-Weinberg proportions (HWP). When a finite
sample of the population is observed, it is of interest to
determine whether or not the population has reached HWP.
A Monte Carlo test for this requires the ability to
generate samples from a variant of HWP for finite
populations. Previous attempts to generate these samples
utilized exponentially long algorithms. Here we compare
these algorithms against a new technique that requires
polynomial time to determine which technique is most
useful in practice.
