   Abstract:
   In this chapter we consider a quadratic extension L/E of totally real fields. The inclusion E → L gives rise to Hilbert modular subvarieties, known as Hirzebruch-Zagier cycles, Z ⊂ Y with dim(Y ) = 2 dim(Z).
