    Abstract:
There are strong reciprocal relationships between health and human development. Developmental disabilities and delays in utero and in childhood are associated with compromised health at all later stages of life, including middle and old age. Conversely, physical or mental illness early in the life course stunts normal development during childhood/adolescence and is associated with disadvantaged socioeconomic status throughout adulthood.
