Research Summary:
I am interested in researching adolescent substance abuse as well as mood and anxiety disorders. I am particularly interested in how presentation and treatment for each may vary among minority groups. I would like to investigate individual predictors for overcoming adversity and risk-taking behaviors (such as substance abuse), as well as to understand the possible gender and cultural implications behind these discrepancies. Furthermore, I would like to research how different treatments affect individual youths. For instance, to explore why the same proven treatment can benefit some adolescents and may have no effect on others as well as if some therapies change how certain adolescents think about depressing or anxiety-producing situations versus how they react to the experience of sadness or anxiety and how this may vary among different populations.
