Reality Shock Management and Patient Perception of Nursing Caring
PHS Division of Nursing Public Health
RO1 H 00801
07/1981-07/1984
Role: Project Director
Project Goal: This multi-center quasi-experimental study, conducted in two states in the northeast, sought to describe the construct of reality shock in experienced nurses (those with work experience from 1 to 10 years as a staff nurse). These qualitative findings were then used to design, deliver and evaluate an intervention to enhance nurse job satisfaction (a recognized precursor to staff turnover). Additionally, a new instrument (Patient Perception of Nursing Caring) was developed and tested as one of the study outcome variables.
