Brief Bio

Dr. Levy is Assistant Research Professor and Statistical Methodologist at the Duke Univesrity School of Nursing. She obtained her Ph.D. in Educational Research from the University of Kansas, and has been a practicing statistician/research methodologist for the past 25 years. She has worked in a variety of disciplines including the biological sciences, education, and business. These experiences provided intimate knowledge of what has become known as generalized linear models. Before coming to Duke, she was a mathematical statistician in the Clinical Trials Network of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. While there, she developed an interest in the design and sizing of clinical trials to test longitudinal clinical strategies for chronic illnesses. A second area of professional expertise includes the measurement of addiction severity. At the Duke University School of Nursing, she teaches Categorical Data Analysis in the PhD Program and Evidence Based Practice and Applied Statistics in the DNP Program.

  Project Goal: This exploratory study will examine maturation of vasomotor tone by measuring central and peripheral body temperature in relationship to peripheral perfusion during the first 5 days of life in 30 ELBW infants to focus on the gestational age of mature vasomotor tone and how vasomotor tone matures over postnatal age.

• Cascade Iatrogenesis: Postoperative Respiratory Failure in Hospitalized Older Adults.

  Project Goal: Examine factors associated with older adults’ risk for developing a common cascading complication, including events that may ‘trigger’ the cascade towards postoperative respiratory failure, yet may be preventable through nursing care.
