
Dr. Hawks is the Program Director of the Duke University School of Nursing Nurse Anesthesia Specialty and has been on faculty since 2006. She has over 20 years of experience providing anesthesia care to cardiac surgical patients and over 16 years as a nurse anesthesia educator. As Duke faculty, her primary interests include the use of innovative technologies to enhance student learning in both on-campus and distance education. Her innovative use of electronic portfolios and I-Pad applications has resulted in her collaboration with the technology development industry. She has spoken extensively about creating personal learning environments that enable students to focus on their unique educational interests. She has been selected by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Board of Directors to serve as a member of the AANA Education Committee for the 2012 fiscal year. Dr. Hawks received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Radford University, Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Duke University School of Nursing.

Dr. Hawks provides comprehensive anesthesia care for a variety of patient acuity levels undergoing all surgical procedures as a CRNA in the Duke University Medical Center.
