    Abstract:
Model compounds of general formula H -- (CH2 -- CHX)nCH3 (where n equals 2 and 3 and X equals CO2H, CO2CH3, CO2C2H5, CO2CH(CH3)2 and CN) have been prepared; these compounds were brought to steric equilibrium by treatment with alkaline catalysts and equilibrium concentrations measured by gas chromatography; syndiotactic configuration is preferred over isotactic in all cases; steric factors are more important than polarity for systems which were investigated; it is proposed that equilibrium triad content of high polymers is approximated by equilibrium composition models where n equals 3.
