    Abstract:
This paper proposes the application of coherence-domain multiplexing to point-to-point optical communication links. The technique takes advantage of direct transmission and detection of bits within the coherence-modulated pulse packets, and utilizes simple sources and receivers due to its inherent stability, which permits automatic dispersion of linear dispersion. Also, the application of coherent encoding for incoherent sources allows the elimination of the high density short temporal pulses, resulting in reducing the possibility of nonlinear dispersion when compared to nonsoliton time-division multiplexing systems.
