    Abstract:
Mammalian skeletal muscle cells were cultured in a stretch device developed in a previous study. The membrane substrate on which the muscle was grown was characterized and found to exhibit linear strain behavior. Stretched fibers aligned at a smaller angle to the direction of stretch were significantly longer than control fibers. Both control and stretched fibers positively stained for α-actinin.
