    Abstract:
The design, fabrication, and the characterization of photonic bandgap microcavity devices were discussed. The development of polarization beam splitters, polarization beam combiner, circulator and polarization state monitor, and their practical application were also discussed. It was found that photonic crystal polarization splitter meets several requirements for industrial use such as stable manufacturing process, batch production within reasonable time and high performance. It was also found that the device have a unique optical path configuration which enables several novel device structures.
