    Abstract:
    COCORP seismic reflection profiling in the western and northern Mojave Desert of southern California has revealed the presence of numerous major low-angle reflecting horizons within the crust. These complex, though laterally continuous, horizons are interpreted to represent major southwesterly dipping crustal fault zones, and as such they place important constraints on the tectonic evolution of the region. The uppermost horizon is interpreted to be the Rand thrust, which, where exposed, places Precambrian and Late Cretaceous crystalline rocks over possibly younger Pelona-Rand-Orocopia Schist. The most prominent reflecting horizon occurs at midcrustal depths exhibits a `ramp and flat' geometry, and extends over the northern area of the Mojave survey into the Basin and Range Province.
