In this study we test the efficiency of an improved radiating boundary equation for open channel flows. To aid faster convergence of the solution to steady-state profiles, the flow domain is truncated and a radiating boundary equation applied at the downstream end of the truncated domain. The focus is on mixed flows with shocks as in hydraulic jumps, which represent steady turbulent flows. The numerical results are compared with reported experimental data. All the results indicate this approach is a reliable tool for predicting the stationary flow profile with no loss of flow information
