    Abstract:
    Abstract only given, substantially as follows. Using a vacuum electrobalance and a laser light figure apparatus, the rate of evaporation from ZnO single crystals and the correlation of this rate with crystal morphology has been investigated. The evaporation rates from {00.1} and {00.1¯} surfaces, when the remaining surfaces were coated with MgO or Pt has been determined. The Langmuir evaporation activation energies for each condition have been determined, and both the evaporation rates and the activation energies are different for each surface and for each coating. Examination of the crystals shows that there is a chance in crystal morphology between 1150°C and 1200°C. This change in morphology is reflected in a concomitant change in the slope of the Arrhenius plot of evaporation rate versus the reciprocal temperature
