    Abstract:
This is the second part of a larger study of how heat transfer-type irreversibilities account for the aggregate inefficiencies of the large-scale power and refrigeration plants that have already been built. In the first part it was shown that the recorded efficiencies of existing power plants can be anticipated on the basis of very simple models that include the irreversibility effect associated with the transfer of heat across a finite temperature difference. The objective of this second part is to show that the same methodology can be used in order to explain the observed trends in the inefficiencies of existing large-scale refrigeration plants.
