    Abstract:
Accurate knowledge of rotorcraft tip vortex structure is essential to the prediction of rotorcraft free-wake aerodynamics and sound radiation due to blade-vortex interaction. A novel analytical method has been developed to accurately predict the turbulent structure of a fully developed trailing vortex. Properties in the trailing vortex are calculated from the load distribution on the generating blade, and satisfy a set of fundamental conservation laws. This new vortex model can be used to determine the correct flow field for examining blade-vortex interaction (BVI).
