   Abstract:
   Comments have been made on the work of D.H. Hodges (AIAA Journal, vol.17, p.924-926) on direct solutions for Strum Liouville systems with discontinuous coefficients, which may be applied to vibrations of nonuniform beams. Various approaches to treatment of these problems have been discussed. Hodge's reply has been appended
