    Abstract:
With a fast reduction in supply of nonrenewable energy sources on a continuing basis, innovative considerations are being entered into the design of equipment, systems and controlled processes. Suddenly, conservation of energy has become very important. The new equipment is designed with particular regard to conservation of energy, and the systems and processes are designed to be energy efficient. The general energy problem is discussed. The impact that conservation policies can make in residential and nonresidential building energy use is outlined. Availability and application of control technology, energy management schemes, and direct digital control are examined. Three typical examples, illustrating the use of control strategies for energy conservation in built environments, are presented.
